History of BMS

Our building was first opened to students in the fall of 1923 as Scottsbluff High School. As the building began to expand, it housed both high school and junior high students until 1960 when the current Scottsbluff High School was built. BMS has been a junior high and middle school ever since, and in the fall of 2010, students moved into a completely renovated and state of the art academic facility. A successful bond referendum and supportive community made this proud learning environment possible. The renovation included rearranging the classroom layout to fit the middle school concept, updating the electrical wiring and technology infrastructure, relocating the office to the original central entrance, adding elevators for easy handicap accessibility, and installing air conditioning while updating the heating and ventilation system. Our renovated school features a multi-purpose room that can serve as a commons area for students, a cafeteria during lunch time, and as an auditorium for small performances and school assemblies. A spacious, versatile fitness room overlooks the gymnasium, which provides seating for 750 spectators.

Principal's Message

Welcome to Bluffs Middle School. I am very honored to work with an excellent staff who is committed to the academic achievement and personal growth of our nearly 800 students. Our priority is for each student to grow academically and embrace the opportunities middle school provides to prepare for future educational goals.

Middle school creates a strong foundation for long-term academic success. As we work to obtain our mission, our expectations of staff and students must be high. Staff members work tirelessly to provide purposeful instruction as we implement a rigorous curriculum across all grade levels. Additionally, academic interventions and enrichment opportunities are embedded in our daily practices. The exploratory course offerings at BMS provide students a wide range of opportunities that encompass high-interest content. Students may select from fine arts, computers, business, art, health and Project Lead the Way courses. We strive to promote students as individuals and provide academic and social-emotional programs necessary to ensure student growth.

Bluffs Middle School staff expect dedication from students in terms of their level of achievement, work ethic, and behavior. Through a well defined and monitored MTSS (Multi-Tier Systems of Support) process, students are supported by parents and staff both academically and socially. Together we will make a difference.

Technology in the classroom continues to enrich instruction. Our recent implementation of the DALI, (Device Assisted Learning Initiative) has created a collaborative learning environment for students and staff. A blended learning environment provides rich and engaging instruction beyond the walls of the classroom.
